we are
inviting authors of Software Capability/Maturity Models to participate
in a survey on how
software capability/maturity models are developed and evolved. In
this
context, we understand as software capability/maturity models, models
describing life cycle processes, based on good engineering and process
management principles and a set of
process
attributes comprising the capability/maturity aspects, suitable for the purpose of assessing and/or
improving processes.
The
survey is being conducted as part of a PhD research at the Federal
University
of Santa Catarina in cooperation with the CTI – Center of Information
Technology Renato
Archer (Brazil).
Today,
there exist a vast variety of capability/maturity models, yet, very
little
information is available on how those models have been developed or are
being
evolved. This survey will help in identifying how currently
capability/maturity
models are developed as a basis for the consolidation of methods to
develop new
models or adaptation of such models for specific domains.
The completion of the enclosed questionnaire
should
not take more than 60 minutes. We appreciate that this is a substantial investment
of time –
and as an appreciation for your participation in this survey, you will
receive
a report of the results of the survey. All
responses will be assembled as is and used
for generalization and comparison. We intend to publish the results as
technical
report and research paper.
When answering the survey, please keep in mind
that the focus of this research is on the development of the
capability/maturity
model itself and not, e.g., an accompanying assessment method.
Based on knowledge engineering methods and
common standard development processes, we identified a basic set of
steps in
order to guide the description of the development process. Yet, if
necessary,
please feel free to change the order of steps, include new ones or
delete any
which do not apply.
In order to separate also clearly between the
initial development process and later evolution processes, we would
also like
you to consider for the development process the development of the
first
version of the model and than any further update as part of the
evolution
process.
The survey is coordinated by Jean Carlo R.
Hauck. If you have any questions, please get in contact via email maturitymodelsurvey@gmail.com.
Please return the
completed form via email maturitymodelsurvey@gmail.com
no later than 25 June 2009.
Thank you
very much – your contribution is crucial to the success of this study!
