State of Mato Grosso
The state of Mato Grosso is grandiose. Its 906.000 km² shelter ecological sanctuaries like the Pantanal – World Biosphere Reserve and World Natural Heritage – the Amazon forest which covers 50% of its area – the treasures of the Cerrado savannahs with their archeological sites, caves, rivers and waterfalls and the spectacular valley of the Araguaia River..

 

Cuiabá and Várzea Grande
Cuiabá, the state capital, is the geodesic center is South America. It is a historic city and offers good hotel infrastructure, excellent restaurants to try out the delicious regional, international cuisine. In the old Fish Market, transformed into the River Museum, is one of the typical restaurants of the city, so as the best arts and crafts.
Near the Geodesic Point, is the old War Arsenal building, now called Sesc Arsenal, who is now a thriving cultural and arts center, with cinema, theatre and bar.
The main airport of the state, Marechal Rondon, is in Várzea Grande, a city very cloth from Cuiabá, where also is UNIVAG – Centro Acadêmico, the place of our event.

 

Chapada dos Guimarães
Far away from Cuiabá around 100km, you get there on BR-251 highway. In this region (where there was once sea) there are palaeontological remains like fossilized seashells in the clay. The Chapada dos Guimarães attracts mystics and sensitive persons from all over the world and impresses one with the scenic beauty of the landscape. The region offers activities like walks, visits to archeological and geological sites, caving, horseback excursions, as well as the watching of fauna and flora, with special mention for the medicinal plants like golden trumpet tree (Ipê) cats claw, copaica and babatimão.

 

Pantanal
Is the largest flooded plain in the world (230.000km²) and the third largest environmental reserve. Its ecological importance is immense, as it shelters one of the richest ecosystems ever found with seasonal forests that undergo periodic flooding. The abundance of animals makes the Pantanal region one of the most propitious for watching fauna and flora, or for fishing (only permitted from March to October). Former cattle farms have been adapted to receive visitors offering those tourists who appreciate Ecotourism varied and excursions.

 

Savanna
A region situated in the Brazilian Central Tableland, special for adventure sports like rafting, rappel, canoeing, snorkeling, Tyrolese climbing and tree cable sport. Its trails are an invitation for cycling, trekking and horse riding. The Cerrado savanna is one of Brazil’s most important biomes. It occupies the central region of Mato Grosso and has cinematographic scenery replete with caves, grottoes, archeological sites and waterfalls with crystal clear water.

 

Nobres
Far away 140 km from Cuiabá, Nobres has as most important attraction the Blue Lake Grotto, which impresses one with the beauty of its geological formations and the exuberant blue of the pool. The city environs abound in grottoes and caves. Rivers and lakes of crystal clear water, typical of calcareous formations, transect the region. They are the habitat of various species of plants and fishes. It’s very suitable for scuba diving.
