XIV Brazilian Symposium on Databases - SBBD'99
| Florianópolis - Santa Catarina - Brazil October 11 - 13, 1999
Call for Tutorials |
![]() |
SBBD is the official database event of the Brazilian Computer Society and aims mostly at publicizing research results. In its fourteenth edition, SBBD should congregate between 350 and 500 attendees in the beautiful Florianopolis - one of the most charming cities in the country with its 42 sunny beaches. The SBBD symposium usually gathers students and researchers (from Brazil and abroad) who discuss problems related to the main topics in modern databases. Besides technical sessions, the symposium will also include invited talks given by distinguished speakers of the international research community. The Program Committee of SBBD'99 solicits tutorial proposals. Each tutorial will be presented in a 3 hours session. The tutorials can be presented in Portuguese, English or Spanish.
The Program Committee will consider proposals for introductory and advanced tutorials on any topic within the area of databases. Introductory tutorials should target an audience consisting of advanced undergraduate and graduate students, as well as people from industry. Hence, they can be thought of as "recycling" courses. Introductory tutorials should be given, preferably, in Portuguese. Advanced tutorials, on the other hand, must cover the state of the art besides motivating and exposing potential research issues.
Only an abstract (1-2 pages) of the accepted tutorials will be published in the symposium proceedings. However, copies of the presentation material (or lecture notes) will be also required for distribution at the symposium.
Depending on funding availability, SBBD'99 will cover travel and lodging expenses for one author of each accepted tutorial. The presenting author will be required to register with the symposium.
The Program Committee of SBBD'99 reserves the right to invite for presentation tutorials which will not be subject to the selection process this call for tutorials refers to. The Program Committee also reserves the right to not select any of the submitted proposals.
Tutorial proposals should be submitted in English and must contain the following (please do not send slides/handouts):
1. Tutorial title and the authors' name, affiliation and e-mail.
2. Type (introductory or advanced) and language of the tutorial and a short abstract (one paragraph).
3. Outline of the tutorial (e.g., section titles and abstracts thereof with at most one paragraph for each section).
4. List of related references (maximum of 1 page).
5. Information on where this tutorial has been presented before (or is under consideration for presentation).
6. A short bio of each author (at least one paragraph for each author).
7. Special audio-visual needs (e.g., overhead projector, slide projector, etc.).
8. Supporting material to be distributed at the symposium (e.g., lecture notes, copies of slides, etc). We strongly recommend that such material should be made available through the WWW.
Proposals should be sent by e-mail ONLY in a plain text file (i.e., no postscript, LaTeX, etc) to:
